No Name? No Big Dill.

by You Can't Call It "It"! on September 16, 2011

Do you read the hopelessly creative and utopian blog, No Big Dill?  The Dill family has five beautiful daughters: Divine, Pearl, Olive, Azure, and Clover, and mama just gave birth to their first son.  As of today, he remains nameless.

Let’s help, shall we?  They seem to have a predilection for nature names, but the names largely have Christian undertones to them (the family, like many of the most amazing bloggers out there, is Mormon).  It will be interesting to see if the Dills keep with the same naming traditions they’ve gone with for their daughters, or if this being their only son will have them opt for a more traditional choice.  Will they repeat initials for the first time?

Here are a few names that I feel would fit seemlessly into their crew.  What do you think suits this child?

Fisher

Forest

Giles

Heath

Indigo

Jasper

Lauro

Lemuel

Reef

Rowan

Sylvan

Theodore, nn Theo

Zion

Love the suggestions of Valor and Noble! I could really see them going in a virtue direction, mirroring Divine.

I love the idea of Heath and North – North always makes me think True North, which makes it kind of a virtue name.

I’d add:

Leaf
Bay
Linden
Foster (vaguely preppy, but I love the meaning)
Sterling (again, maybe not the right vibe)
River
Birch
Jett (too flashy?)
True

I love Leaf, but a virtue name would be great, too!
Loden
Hart

I like Fisher, like a fisher of men, from the Bible. I love all their daughters’ names too!

My favorites for them:
Merit/Merritt
Shepherd
Harmon

Others that could work:
Peregrine (Perry)
Meade (although the flow is a bit choppy)
Bishop
Simon
Jude (again, a choppy flow with the surname)

From those already mentioned, I love:
Jasper
Rowan
Reed
Fisher
Noble
Leaf
Loden

Lemuel was a funny choice. In the Book of Mormon, he’s an ornery, disbelieving son of a prophet.

When I looked at the five Dill girls names, I thought of Taylor Hanson’s boys: Ezra, River, and Viggo. They would fit in nicely with the Dill family. I’m also a really big Hanson fan.

Oops! You can tell I’m not Mormon. :-) I chose it because of the meaning, “belonging to God.” I suppose I should actually read the Book of Mormon if I want to go recommending religious names to them.

No worries; Lemuel is a nice name, and it makes sense to me why you recommended it. It’s a good Hebrew name, and Lemuel and his family were from Jerusalem. It just might have a slightly negative connotation in the Mormon community. :)

Hello fellow Hanson fan ;) I have to agree totally with River or Ezra, but not Viggo. It’s not a nature name or religious so personally I don’t see it.

My brother’s name is Sylvan and sibling-to-be will be Shepard if it’s a boy. I saw both names brought up here and I think they would both fit in beautifully with the other Dill children! My other suggestions are:

…and I love the suggestions Noble, Harmon (it was actually top of my suggestions list until I realised someone had already said it!) August and Peregrine (I know a boy with this name who goes by Pip). Can’t wait to hear what they pick! :)

I know it’s a bit random, but I just read this and it cracked me up. For all of you who are pregnant and still undecided about what to name the baby…

Glenn Howerton and his wife Jill Latiano welcomed son Miles Robert on Monday, Sept 12. Thrilled with the arrival of his baby boy, Howerton, 35, admits the couple were left playing the name game at the last minute.

“My wife and I thought it would be a good idea to wait to see the baby first before we actually decided what his name would be … get a sense of the guy,” he shares.

“Then we saw him and he looked like a tiny little baby alien grandpa creature and I was like, ‘I’m not getting any information from this — at all.’”

This is fun! I have 3 boys and I still am in love with their names.
Cannon, Ryder and Miller.

I love hearing people’s reactions to their names but I’m a little sad because most people call Miller, Miller Lite. No, I did not name him after beer. I would love to see the Dills name their boy Cannon Dill. The meaning is a leader of a church so that could work for them.
