I’m sad, too – this has been a lot of fun. I think you need to make it an annual thing when the new lists come out.

Re: halloween – my two daughters LOVE Scooby-Doo, so my oldest (Norah, age 4) is going as Daphne. My youngest (Lucy, age 2) is going as Scooby. Already ordered/received the costumes before Norah could change her mind and go (yet again) as a princess. ;)

My quadset:

Westin Remy (nn West)
Amos Sterling
Rory Jewel
Emmy Maribel

Elisabeth, if you want to keep this going, you could continue with the thousands of names in “Beyond the Top 1000 names”, 100 at a time. :-)

Blasina is completely awesome. What’s the origin?

Reply

17 Julie September 23, 2010 at 2:31 pm

My great-grandma Blasina was Frisian (northern Netherlands.) My best guess is that Blasina probably a Dutch or German Feminine form of Blaise. Her immigration records spelled her name Blezina, so I could be totally mistaken.

It has been a pleasure. Thanks for this awesome, and immensely entertaining game, Elisabeth!

Here is my last sib-set, stylistically all over the place, but I refused to give up on Magdalena as a first name, as it’s one of my all-time favourites!

Cassius Jovan Antony
Leonidas Ralph Eliezer

Magdalena Eloise Theresa
Thalia Alisa Leona

Argh, I used my old nickname from my BabyCentre days by mistake! And now it says the comment is awaiting moderation. Just in case anyone wonders, Gwathdraug was meant to be Sofia, like it has been for every other comment here.

Too many over-the-top names to pass up. I like Howard, but I couldn’t fit him in with this sibset. Thalia and Nola were in the running as well.

Mustafa Cassius
Leonidas Denzel
Xiomara Maribel
Haddassah Yasmine

Mustafa is similiar to a guilty pleasure of mine–Mufasa. Yes, the Lion King’s dad–I love how it sounds! I could never use it, but I find it thrilling to say…

Another big fan of Amos and Nola from this list. Nola is on my baby name short list, as a nickname to Magnolia.

Anyway, here goes:

Nola Roselyn
Theresa Ann
Amos Stone
Clay Lennon

Thankfully, Theresa and Clay are family names, otherwise I would have had a devil of a time with 900-1000! So many alternative spellings and really, really grandiose, foofy names on this list!

51 The Foxymoron September 17, 2010 at 12:21 am

I’ll have to join you on Eloise and Thalia, Elisabeth! But I’d do Eloise Lara and Thalia Edith :)

For the boys, I am completely stumped. At gunpoint, I’d choose Sterling and Lennon. Or maybe Fredrick and Howard. I don’t really like any of them though. The worst of all the boys lists, I reckon.

Like many others, I have found this so much fun. Please do this for the UK list! And any others you can find – Australia, NZ, Sweden, etc! Here is the NZ one – they only do a top 100 as the population is so small!

I’ve really enjoyed this running theme, and am sorry that it’s drawn to a close. To round off my many sets of quadruplets, there are :

Remy and Amos – not difficult, as these were the only two boys’ names that I liked.

Girls are harder – my favourites are Magdalena and Nola, but then of course Magdalena stands out so much in length and Nola seems to have a different feel. Perhaps I’d bow to my own fussiness and do Remy, Amos, Theresa and Magdalena; Remy, Amos, Tessa and Maggie.

I’d probably go for Nola, though, and end up with :

Remy, Amos, Nola and Maggie OR Remy, Amos, Nola and Lena.

As for the girls’ middles, perhaps :
Nola Theresa
Magdalena Dixie.

Ivanna River Nola

Leonidas Anton Hayes
Octavio Sterling Elmer

This was a fun thing, I’m sad it’s over as well but I guess all good things must come to an end…. Which is fitting for me since I just left my job at the local children’s school looking after children with names like Hermela, Selam and Hagos and go on to being nanny to a baby Bella (whose brother is Elvin, not Alvin)

I only recently fell for Leonidas after seeing the film ’300′ for the first time. It was magnificent…

Ok, The middles aren’t so great… I kinda like the firsts though. Dixie is a major guilty pleasure of mine!

As for Halloween! I’ve been thinking about it for over a month now and can’t decide! Dash will be 20 months, so he has no say, lucky me! I was set on Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter… But now I’m considering a Mickey mouse club member because he’s obsessed with the mouse and already likes wearing the ears. Or, maybe an astronaut, cowboy or train conductor… Or possibly broccoli! So hard to choose! What are your girls going as?
