Happy Birthday to a real life three-year-old COSIMA!!! A happy birthday of sorts to your your mother as well, for your big day marks a very special commemoration for her too. Love this story:
Cosima’s name was not a last minute decision. I scanned every name book, every website, every blog starting the moment I found I was pregnant–and even more-so after I learned that my cherub was to be a girl. I was going to be a single mother and although I thought it would be so nice to have no one else with input on my little darling’s name, I was mistaken. It was terrible to make the decision alone and I had no one to tell me if a name was just plain bad. When I was 5 months pregnant I went into an antique store. I was looking for some small decorations for my unamed daughter’s room. Shortly before ringing up my items I came across a dusty glass box. Inside was a single doll. She had soft blue eyes and blonde curls, and I knew she would make a beautiful addition to the nursery. I asked an employee if she could remove the doll from the box because I was interested in purchasing her. She explained that the doll was the original owner Cosima’s doll that she had cherished so greatly. She softly adjusted the dolls hair and said they had named her Cosima after the original owner who had passed just 2 months prior to that day. I took the darling doll home placed her neatly on the center of a shelf in the nursery. That night I thought about the doll and it clicked, my daughter was to be named Cosima. It was so perfect. I had imagined my daughter just like the doll–soft blue eyes, blonde curls, rosy cheeks, absolutely gorgeous. On July 10th, 2007 I went into labor and in the late hours, Cosima emerged into the world. And she was just as I had imagined. She had the soft blue eyes accompanied by the blonde hair and rosy cheeks and I knew the name was just perfect. I decided that Cosima was just a bit too perfect to add a middle name so she was just that, Cosima. And still today, it fits her so very perfectly.
Happy birthday my precious Cosima. You make me so very happy each and every day and the past 3 years have been so delightful. I can not wait to embark on this 4th year!
(And I am so very excited to see all of these new Cosima’s coming into the world!)

This story gives me warm fuzzy feelings.
Delightful! Happy Birthday, Cosima!
Happy birthday, Cosima! A truly beautiful name for a little girl who is really as lovely as a little doll – what a great picture!
What a wonderful story. I love that she is named after a lonely doll waiting for a new home. Kind of like a new baby waiting to meet her mother. Precious.
Beautiful story and a beautiful name! How do you personally pronounce it?
Lovely story! The name is beautiful, I’m happy it’s getting some exposure lately!
Aww, wow, what a great naming story. Happy birthday to your Cosima.
(I’m also curious on how you pronounce it – I’m not sure I’m saying it in my mind correctly.)
Chiming in to say this is such a sweet, unusual story! I also would love to hear the pronounciation. I keep hearing it like a feminine version of Cozumel – COE-sah-mah. I’m almost a hundred percent sure I have it wrong, though.
I adore Cosima!
Cosima is just so SO beautiful! The girl, the name, the namesake, the namesake’s namesake. Hope you had a great day, Doll Face.
Thank you Elisabeth for featuring my Cosima for her 3rd birthday and thank you everyone for all of your sweet comments
Cosima surely enjoyed seeing her picture on the ‘puter’. I personally pronounce her name coh-zi-muh. I know there are many other ways though and she often gets other pronunciations, but that is how we say her name. And she sure did have a great day. We spent it doing everything girly. We had a tea party and played dress up at this wonderful place in town with three of her besties. Now we are gearing up for her party next weekend. We’re very excited to see some family we haven’t seen in a while and Cosima is excited for cake!
You’re so welcome. Hope you have a fantastic time with the fam!
I loved reading Cosima’s story, thanks so much for sharing! And happy belated birthday! May your little girl dreams all come true!
What a beautiful story! Your daughter is just darling as well.
A beautiful name, a beautiful story, and such a beautiful photograph of your little Cosima!
