Chemical Romancer Gerard Way and wife Lindsay “Lyn-Z” Ballato of the aptly named group Mindless Self Indulgence, welcomed their first child, a baby girl, yesterday.
Her name?
Bandit Lee.
Reminiscent of Felony, Murder, and Danger, “names” recently bestowed upon some poor undeserving infants, this one has a hint of mischief. It far surpasses celebrity children Pilot Inspektor and Bronx Mowgli in terms of a setback. Woe is the day she runs into Moxie Crimefighter.
Call me dense, but I just don’t get it. If they were looking for a name with edge, why not Io or Valeska? Or perhaps Bonnie, as in real life bandits Bonnie and Clyde? If you must, stick Bandit in the middle. Better yet, save it for an album title. Was it all a publicity stunt? What could be the motivation?
Maybe, just maybe, they actually went home with a Helen.

As strange as this may sound, it seems as though a lot of parents don’t see their infants as eventual real people, with personalities and professions. They’re just… pets, really.

I can’t see why the couldn’t name her Elena, after Gerard’s grandmother, who the MCR song ‘Helena’ was about.
I know the Lee part is after her, as her name was Elena Lee Rush, but if you ask me they used the wrong part of the name!!

Well, I have to say, ITS THEIR CHILD!!! We will never know the real reason as to why they did, but they and even me, myself, would really hate it, if some one was making fun their kid’s name and their decision. I mean–yeah, she’s an individual but what if she grows up to LIKE her name, and keep it, instead of changing it or shunning it, I mean, she is famous because she has two rock stars for parents and doesn’t have to worry about anything, its REALLY nice to have a unique or some what different name, not just a generation of millions of “Helens” I mean seriously, you would hate it too if some one mde fun of your name, Your chosen name “Elsa” doesn’t seem so good either. If you were a true MCR fan, you would be happy for Gerard ANDhis baby! But yeah…whatever. This is why we barely hear news about Bandit, dumb articles like this and other media have a tendency to bash celeb’s reps for ages, and Gerard and Lyn-z doesn’t want this for their kid…I honestly don’t blame them! Bandit is pretty if you look opposite. Instead of looking at it as a criminal name, Bandit won’t have to worry about professions hough, but names don’t make up the professions, the person does.

Bandit is NOT a name. It is a word with negative connotations. It’s ridiculous.
Bandit and criminal aren’t the same thing. =.= For one thing, Bandit is a much cuter name. For another, it’s very original and it grows on you.
Acutally, the first time I heard it I was like AWESOME! XD And lastly, it’s THEIR BABY. NOT YOURS. You keep your name opinions to yourself if you can’t be polite about it.

I’m a fan of MCR too, but Bandit Lee? Seriously? Do these people know she will have her name on everything, from her birth certificate to diplomas, proffesional card, her tomb? Do they know she’s a real person?
The saddest thing is, they could as well have named her Helena, like the famous MCR song (and Way’s late grandma).

When I saw the name, I thought, “OMG, they named their son Bandit.” When I read that they had welcomed a baby girl, I was just about speechless. I would definitely go by Lee or Andi!
If anyone of you were a TRUE MyChem fan, you’d be happy that Gerard and Lindesy has named THEIR child Bandit Lee Way. Gerard and Lindsey are different compared to other couples. They want to be different. So, names like Bandit, may suite them both. If no one likes it, then they are going to have to deal with it. It’s a shame how many MyChem ‘fans’ are complaing about her name. BE HAPPY!!!

Exactly…SO they named their daughter Bandit. I this it’s unique and I love it! Like B.B.B.Bellamy said they want to be different. If I had a daughter I would of done the same thing. Bandit is and unusual name and that’s the point. Honetslty a lot of people do not want to give theri child a common name so they go for something different. I know a girl who’s name is Lyric. yeah, pretty much, stop complaining about the kid’s name. If you dont like the name, then when you have your kid, don’t name him/her Bandit. I bet if this couple weren’t two great rock stars, nobody would actually give a shit if they named they’re kid Bandit or Asshole. so yeah, it’s their life, don’t try to make them feel bad about their decision. As has been pointed out, Bandit is synonymous with criminal. Not a great way to start out life. It’s not cute, it’s not adorable, it’s not funny. It’s bafflingly bad.
That’s what we do here, Julia. We analyze names. We do care about names. And yes, if they weren’t famous, we would still be very concerned about a little Bandit or an Asshole.
We’ll never stop complaining about names as long as people keep propagating these disasters!!! Why shouldn’t we care? Why don’t you?

WOW! note that obviously the Kira in my name is not referring to you. you are named after the Japanese lord of Death (if Kira is your real name) and you go criticizing the Bandit which is indeed a frikkin awesome name even if it means criminal. YEESH!

A lot of people say they should use Helena, but, as a writer, I would never want to use a name of a character on a child. And I doubt Gerard would want to use a name of a SONG.

It’s not that I’m complaining, but isn’t Bandit is like a criminal or something? What’s gonna happen when the girl grew up? There’s a possibility that she’ll be laughed at. Why can’t Gee just named her after his late grandmother. He wrote a song about her, why not name the baby after her?
the child’s name would be beautiful for everyone who knew the couple closely. one can’t judge why parents name their kids on one way or the other. what is sure is gerard and lindsey are happy to have their first daughter, bandit lee. nothing’s wrong with it actually. After adjusting to the name, i’ve decided i quite like it. It just makes sense that gerard who has written concept songs about vampires, zombies and other such things would name his child something like this, if she doesn’t like it there are nicknames for a reason.

personally i think its great, both the parents are unique people so whats wrong with naming their daughter something unique? besides maybe when Bandits old enough she like the name. so why are people aven argueing about it? its the parents choice NOT yours. and hell i know a girl named Daijia(as in daijia vu) and she loves her name.

Despite the name being vastly unique, I think it is impractical for Gerard Way and Lyndsay Ballato to have named their child “Bandit”, which pretty much means “Criminal”. Although I love the band My Chemical Romance and wish them all the best in raising their first child, I just wish they had given their child a more “normal” name so she wouldn’t be ostracized later on. This is kind of like Nicholas Cage’s kid, who he named “Kel-El” after Superman. Who does that?

Also, I too thought it was boy and am very surprised to see that little Bandit is a girl. Oh dear. Brings to mind Moxie Crimefighter, doesn’t it? Thing is, naming a kid something like this is selfish. The parents are not taking the child into consideration and the burden that might be placed on them with a name like Bandit, or Kel El, or Rebop or whatever.

To answer your question Bliss, I believe it is usually nah-VAY-uh, though I have heard some mothers pronounce their daughters’ names ne-VAY, with two syllables.

I’m a fan of My Chemical Romance mainly because they want to change the world and save people through their art, which is what I want to do. (I want to make animated movies) I’m a creative kind of person. I suppose Im a lot like Gerard. They aren’t just some band that screams worthless crappy lyrics with fake music. They have talent. And it’s hard to find talented bands and musicians nowadays. Anyways, everyone has their own opinion on the name Bandit. Bandit is my name. Bandit Eli, (pronounced Ban-Dit Ee-Lie) and Im a girl too. The name is OK, I don’t get teased for it, infact, people like the name because it’s different to the common names like Emily and John etc. When you’re in public and people say “hey Bandit over here”, sometimes older people stare and whisper, but it’s none of their buisness. Seriously, people should just let parents name their kids whatever they want. I love unique names. I like the names Sphinx and Griffin lol. It’s not my child, but it’s not THEIR name. It’s their child’s and they got to make a desicion for their child which, to be honest, they didn’t seem to think about much.
Privacy is a right not a privilege. you kids should know better. Don’t be rude. And don’t make references to minors…that would be gerards 2 year old child. BACK OFF. END.
