Agnes Toy Box

American royalty?  Perhaps not.  But this melting pot of names, from Anjali to Zeki, indicates what ours might be named.  These parents are interested in design, and style starts in the nursery– or does it?  In some cases, it starts with the name.  Check out these artsy tots from Apartment Therapy’s children’s section, Ohdeedoh.  Can you imagine the 2026 prom party of Calvin, Gladys, Guy, Helen, Hazel, Ida, Luella Bee and Ursula?  Royalty indeed.

Some of these choices took some serious cojones (or ovaries) ;-) , but I bet the children will be handsomely rewarded.  I’ve always thought Gladys sounded like a happy name.  Luella foreshadows what I predict will be a mini trend in country western names on Converse-sporting city kids.

So go have a gander at Ohdeedoh.  Gotta’ love a site that shares the names.

Oooooh, lots of nice names here. On the girls’ side, the ones that call out to me are: Adele, Elodie, Elspeth, Lorelei, Penelope, Rosalind and Sonia.

Honorable mention goes to Piper Jolie – I don’t usually care for either one alone, but that is a lovely combination.

Some beautiful names there. I love Ida.

Love a lot of these names and many of them are on my list (to go with DD Sylvia)! But Wills? Awesome! This is my maiden name and a high ranker for a future son’s middle name. I see Willis often, but not Wills, so this is great:) Bet it was inspired by Prince William since that’s his nickname.

Our playgroup has had a rash of recent additions since Jeanie was born (as well as a few from the preceding couple of months!) Here’s the goss in order of birth…
Oliver (Olly)
Mackenzie (girl)
Emily
Charlotte & Bianca (twins)
Jeanie (of course!)
Ilia (pronounced same as Isla)
Izaac
Hannah-May
Hannah (born the day after Hannah-May, and unaware of name choice!)
Dale

Apart from the fact we have a very fertile group of mums (!!) I love the mix of names we have. Not a lot of duplicates either!
The older kids (all born within 3 months of each other) are:
Alexis
Emily
Payton
Mitchell
Elijah
Liam (x2)
Fraser
Andrew (Andy)
Alissa
Henry
Zach
Bethany
Amelia

I’ll leave it to others to match the babies with their older siblings! Might post the answer later ;-)

Oops! Forgot a couple of the older kids! Silly me…
Dominic
Heidi-Jane
Dillon
Tiegan

Also wanted to say that while I do love the name Gladys, it’s still a bit too closely associated with old ladies for me – one of my grans was Gladys, and my hubby’s grandma as well, still going strong at 94. I’ll leave it as a name for my daughters to consider for their kids!

I really like a lot of these names…. and THREE of my short list girls names are up there – yikes! And my short list is short – less than ten. My top boy names aren’t there, though, but I still love several of them – two make my long list (the list my other half says “no” to just about every name). Four Henrys? I know it’s popular, but wow. One of my favorites is Luella Bee – it’s such a happy name and so much fun to say!

Some of these are trendykins, but others are fantastic! Wow, this is exciting.

I love Beatrix, Daphne, Elodie, Elspeth, Gladys, Ida, June, Matilda, Penelope, Rosalind Hazel, and Ursula for girls.

Not as many guys that I like. Guy, Theo, and Oliver are kind of nice, but nothing noteworthy. A well-named bunch.

Actually, if I’m doing my math correctly, there will be a Mia at a 2026ish prom — Mia Catherine, to be exact! My little Mimi (my niece) was born in 2007, so her senior prom would be in 2025, but it’s close enough. Should Mia’s mother’s pregnancy go well (she’s almost 4 months along and had a miscarriage at 4 and a half months last time, so we’re definitely still keeping our fingers crossed) and if she has a boy, there’ll be little Rocco Anthony at a prom circa 2027! If it’s a girl… Well, her second-girl choices are not unheard of for these times. She likes Ariana, Eliana, and Cara. So if she goes with Eliana, she’d be the second person I know in real life to name a baby girl born in ’09 Eliana — And that’s not counting the people I know online considering it. Eh, whatever. And, coincidentally, Mia’s father is named Guy — After his father or paternal grandfather (can’t remember) named Graziano, nicknamed Guy.

My definite favorites from the list are Adele (and other Adel- names), Amelia (In the running for a middle name spot, considering my real name is Emily, and Amelia is in the same family), Beatrix (Just as lovely as Beatrice, with the added bonus of Trixie as a NN!), Ella Ruth (Lovely combo! I also like the idea of Ella Jane), Hazel (A bit popular now, but still wondrous), Helen Tallulah (Love Tallulah, would probably be my favorite of the list if this was Helena Tallulah!), June (Also considered for mn, as my mom was born in June.), Penelope (B-E-A-Utiful!), Rosalind Hazel (Very pretty, but I like ROSE-ah-lind better than the ROZ beginning.)

Really, I like all except Anjali, Bethsabee, Brooklyn, Brynley, Finley on a girl, Meera, Qaisarah, and Ursula.

For the boys, I’m smitten with Elliott, Finley, the surprising 4 Henrys, Ian, and Miles.

Hi! I came over here from DesignMom and searched my daughter’s name to find this post with both my daughters’ names! My girls are Piper Jolie and Finley Claire. I have since had a little boy (he’s almost 2) and he is Jonas mIchael Grimm.

Guess what? I am preggo with #4 – find out the gender on Thursday and I would love to hear your opinion on a possible boy’s name and a girl’s name. The only thing I really have floating around in my head is Felix.

How exciting Shannon, welcome! Yes, I stalk Ohdeedoh for what the hip and stylish are naming their children. ;-)

I would love to do a post for you. Why don’t you shoot me an email on Thursday telling me the news (yikes! yay!) and any other ideas and criteria you have. youcantcallitit AT gmail (DOT) com

I just looked at the list you made again from Ohdeedoh and Jonas did indeed make the list! – I will email you Thursday!

It’s funny – no one in my “circle” sees my name choices as “hip and stylish”! Usually I tell them the name and I get a blank stare.
